Frequently Asked Questions

Since I wrote this review, I've received dozens of emails from people, and almost all of them ask the same 2 or 3 questions, so I'll answer them here.

Q: "So, you seem to think the Goeldo BackBox is the best of the bunch... where can I get them in the U.S.?"

A: The answer I was giving everybody was that you had to order them from Rockinger in Germany. However, Rockinger would sometimes remove the BackBox from their online store (in fact, as I write this, it's gone from the store again). The other problem with ordering from Rockinger is that you're paying international shipping for a fairly inexpensive item, so the shipping cost is possibly more than the item itself. So, to counter these two problems, the last time the BackBoxes showed back up on Rockinger's website, I bought ten of them to sell to people who contacted me for them.

I list them on eBay (just search for "BackBox" or "Goeldo"). At first, I didn't want to sell them myself because I didn't want it to look like I was biased; giving by best review to an item that I just happen to be selling. So, I just want to make clear: I wrote this review long before I decided to sell the BackBoxes. The only reason I'm selling them is because people keep emailing me asking where to buy them.

Q: "I want to use an EVH 'D-Tuna' that lets me drop my low-E string down to a D, but I've got a floating bridge. Will a trem stabilizer let me do this?"

A: My initial answer to the many people who've asked me this question has been "no". However, one reader pointed out that, in my review of the Ibanez Backstop, I said that it almost provides too much stiffness. The reader asked if the Backstop might be formidable enough to handle dropping the low-E down to a D. After thinking about it, I bet that it would. Granted, I haven't actually tried this, and I still need to write up a little blurb about how I would adjust the Backstop to handle it, but I think it would work.

Q:: "Do you have any pictures of the installation process for the BackBox?"

A: Nope. Sorry. I hadn't thought of taking pictures of that install. However, next time I install one, I'll take pics and post them.
